Description
United States Historical Society 1988 Robert E. Lee Civil War Confederate Saber. Shipped with USPS First Class. In 1988 the U.S. Historical Society issued a replica of Confederate General Robert E. Lee’s saber. Retail price in 1988 was ,025. The saber was hand made in Solingen, Germany by F. Hoerster. It is beautifully mounted on a walnut, display board. The saber measures 37” long and the overall length of the board/display wallmount measures 7 3/4” high and 41” long. It was crafted using the same ancient techniques as Lee’s original and the U.S. Historical Society had the same shop that made Lee’s saber produce this remarkable collector’s item. There were a select number of these sabers handmade to honor General Lee and his legends saber. You will find this saber looks, feels, and handles precisely as the original. You can hold in your hands a saber of rare craftsmanship that carries historical and artistic value. It took the craftsman many weeks to forge, grind, etch, and polish the blade to a mirror finish. The next phase then began which was to decorate it in 24 karat gold and cobalt blue. The blade displays a portrait of General Lee, the Napoleonic cannon, and a portrayal of the General with the Confederate Flag along with his horse, Traveler. The reverse side inlay displays the Lee Family Coat of Arms and a gold banner inscribed of General Lee’s words: “There is true glory, the glory of duty is done”. At every step, this saber has been inspected to ensure every aspect is perfect. The blade edge is not sharpened so there is no chance of anyone being injured by handling this breathtaking piece. The gold handle guard is perfect, the handle is nice and tight, and the walnut display board is amazing as the corners are decorated with a floral pattern in gold leafing. This marvelous display piece can be yours! It’s a rare piece and very few are available today. Worthpoint has a description that almost mirrors this description so you know this is a rare, handmade, precisely crafted saber that is astounding and would make General Lee proud!
