The Rattleback is a tactile curiosity whose ancient and mysterious properties grab the attention of people of all ages.
With the flick of a finger you can demonstrate Newton's Law of Motion.
Spin the Rattleback in one direction.
Now try to spin it in the opposite direction.
Due to its offset center of Gravity, it "wants" to spin counter clockwise.
You will find out that it has  a very strong spin bias and it will automatically reverse and spin counterclockwise.
Turn the Rattleback upside down (flat side down) and use it as a magnifying glass (you will notice some distortion due to its uneven curvature).
Rattlebacks are also known as Rattlerbacks or Celts.
They occur naturally and may be found near bodies of water- especially river banks, where the action of the water has smoothed them into ellipsoidal shapes that have a spin bias.
They were first discovered by archaeologists studying prehistoric axes.
