Description
Sawankhalok / Sangkhalok celadon bowl antique Thai (13th-15th Century). This bowl has been looked at by two separate appraisers, one in 1964 (see the photo with the attribution written on tape and stuck on the bottom of the bowl) that describes it as coming from the “Sawankhalok” district, the other appraiser in 2022 describes this as being from the “Sangkhalok” district.
Either way, this 800-900 year old sturdy little stoneware bowl is in exceptionally good condition, especially for its age. The bowl is incised with designs on interior and exterior, with characteristic celedon ("crow's egg") glaze. It is in excellent shape and both appraisers agree that it was made sometime between the 13th and 15th centuries in Thailand. All covered in a thin transparent robin’s egg blue celadon glaze having small crackle, stopping short of the raised foot rim revealing a light tan biscuit on the countersunk base.
It has a slightly oblong shape measuring approximately 5-1/2 “ diameter by approximately 6” diameter, and stands 2-3/4” tall.
Great care will be given to packing this bowl for safe shipping.
