    Description

This beautiful antique Burmese Betel Box is in excellent condition.  From the late 1800s-early 1900s, it is finely
incised with orange, black, green, red and yellow lacquer.  It is richly decorated with a forest scene, with antelope and either god-like or noble figures.  Old Cinnabar colored three piece "Kun-it", a container designed for storing and serving ingredients to assemble a quid, or chew of betel, a mild stimulant.  Beautifully decorated boxes of this kind were central in hosting and providing generous hospitality in old Burmese society.  Measures 7.5" tall, 8" diameter.
