Description
King Fischer type Kris or Kriss knife Malaysia, SouthFor your consideration is this very fine King Fischer type Kris or Kriss knife Malaysia, South. The handle, called the ukiran, is made of solid silver depicting a character from the Wayang theater, known as the "kingfisher" or "King Fischer". It owes its name to its particularly prominent nose similar to a bird's beak. The blade is wavy, in pamor, symbolizes the naga.
The upper part of the scabbard, called the wrangka, is made of dark wood, finished in two side ears with scrolls. The section constituting the body of the scabbard, called the gandar, is made of lighter wood. Three silver rings and full tip cover punctuate it.
OAL is 11 1/4", bladse length is 9". The keris is in nice condition with expected use marks, the blade shows some rust and pitting.

This knife is from an extensive collection of world edged weapons assembled in the 1970's & 80's by a Northern Florida antique dealer.
