John S. Mosby, “The Gray Ghost” • Signed Print
Colonel John S. Mosby, The Gray Ghost
FLAGS HAVE BEEN REMOVED
Please understand that eBay has made a decision to no longer permit Confederate battle flag and related listings. We believe the image of the flag itself has become a contemporary symbol of divisiveness and racism. This is not a reflection or judgement on anyone selling the item and we respect that there are a wide variety of opinions on this issue. We thank you for your understanding and ask you to please not list these kinds of items.
VERY SAD • IGNORANCE IS A TERRIBLE THING
CSA

Commemorating the 150
th
Anniversary of the
Confederate States of America
"FATE DENIED THEM VICTORY BUT GAVE THEM A GLORIOUS IMMORTALITY"
This immortality has been captured in these
CSA

Image bears Col. Mosby's signature
CSA 014.
Photograph of
Colonel John S. Mosby, “The Gray Ghost”
, taken shortly before the end of the war. Colonel Mosby as Mathew Brady saw him in full dress uniform in March 1865, b. 1833 - d. 1916. He met with President Grant several times who had a high regard for him and helped Mosby obtain a position of employment. Col Mosby was in Asia and when he got back to the USA found himself unemployed. He wired President Grant not knowing he was very ill asking for a position. Grant was on his death bed and found him a position as an attorney for the Southern Pacific, that he had for sixteen years, until he retired. "He felt as if he had lost a best friend",
you could not speak a bad word about Grant in his presents.
Col. Mosby was my 14th cousin.
This photograph bears Mosby's signature.
"War loses a great deal of romance after a soldier has seen his first battle. I have a more vivid recollection of the first than the last one I was in. It is a classical maxim that it is sweet and becoming to die for one's country; but whoever has seen the horrors of a battlefield feels it is far better to live for it".
John S. Mosby 1887
This lot is for ONE (1) item,
a photo reproduction, restored from the original glass negative.
Image size:
7.5 x 10 inches.
This outstanding photograph is over one gigabit in size in a 16 bit format and is sepia toned as the original. Printed on satin finish archival paper
(260gsm, that is 11 mil thick sheet)
with archival inks.
This is a Fine Art Museum Quality Print.
It comes in a acid free glassine envelope. Note, do to Colonel Mosby's current condition he did not sign this photograph. His signature has been carefully applied to it in brown to simulate the ink that was used as that time. Actually the color of the ink was a blueish purple with a high iron count that rusted over time.
What makes these prints so different form others? It has been made directly from a digital file of
the glass, wet collodion negative made over 145 years ago. They have been meticulously retouched and restored. This is a reproduction not a print made 145 years ago.
This is a Museum quality print reproduction. It comes in an archival glassine envelope for added protection and shipped with stiffeners for added protection against being bent. Note Colonel Mosby did not sign this photograph; he is in no condition to sign it. His signature has been duplicated and carefully applied to the image. This is a 21st century digital archival print.
Each CSA Signature Series image comes with a short excerpt out Southern Civil War history describing the heroic figure. Tastefully printed on gray cover stock with a Confederate flag as above printed on the page. Suitable for framing.
Reviews:
eBay buyer,

My son loved the Steve Jobs photo. Unbelievable work. Your talent is rare!
Thank you for your kindness in combining the shipping and handling charges. I will be purchasing all three and checking out more in the future".

Errata
SOME people
seem a little confused as to my descriptions: (I want nobody to be disappointed in there purchase, I take great pride in what I do and have put in a lot time carefully restoring these images).
Let me make myself perfectly clear. What you see, is what you get, the image on eBay is the PRODUCT you will receive, and in all cases better. I have described in great detail each item and exactly what it is. If you have any requests or questions please do not hesitate to ask before you order, I will be happy to answer them.
Know what you are buying.
It is what it is, a
Museum Quality print
made and restored from a digital file using the original old glass negative and in rare instances a print, it is
NOT
an original print made in the 1860's or 1870's and restored, (seems I had one buyer expecting an original restored print circa 1860's or 1870 with actual signatures for .95) it is
a
restored
archival digital reproduction,
with the Colonel's signature carefully applied. Had another one recently where the buyer wanted to return the item because it was NOT what she envisioned (imagined), I explained it was not a bronze statue. She then claimed the frame was plastic no wood (
stupid
is as stupid does), the manufacture of the wooden frame called it
walnut, it was wood.
Unfortunately I will not be offering these frames because my distributer no longer carries them and I cannot find them at a good price anywhere else.
I refused the return and
B
uyer made a claim to eBay/Paypal for a return and it was
denied
by PayPal.
America is a wonderful place
.
This is an excellent print of Colonel Mosby.
Again, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.
Thank you for looking.
