    From "Pedal of the day":
Flanging can be an excellent effect when used right, and can really ruin a tone or song when used wrong. In general, most flangers I’ve come across have been fairly complex machines, often requiring lots of manual reading and experimentation. The FX747 Supersonic Stereo Flange pedal from DOD, made from 1996-1998, features 4 simple knobs, and is as easy to dial in a great sound as it is fun to experiment with.
One thing you’ll notice right away with the FX747 is that the controls are all labeled interesting names, and ones that aren’t exactly user-friendly at first. Perhaps trying to portray the mindset that the user would feel like they were actually operating a jet of some sort, the knobs are labeled Payload (Level), Mach (Speed), Altitude (Width) and Thrust (Regen). Once you figure out what they are, the names sound kind of badass, really, it’s just getting over the initial confusion that took a minute. A claim to fame when this pedal was released is the fact that the Mach control has a larger range than most flangers, allowing you to get super-slow flange speeds, to play “into” the effect, rather than “with” it. As you’ll see in the video below, the FX747 is capable of making subtle, tasteful overtone sounds to borderline obnoxious, swirling, jet engine swooshes, with a great spectrum of sounds in between for a multitude of excellent flange effects. Plus, you can run it in Stereo, for a whole other set of sounds to play with and learn from.
Another pedal now sought-after and discontinued before it’s time, the FX747 Supersonic Flange is an underrated classic of a pedal, and one that can usually be found for an excellent price! Like so many of these late ’90s pedals from DOD, this one, too, is a hidden gem that is sure to make a comeback or get a re-release at some point in the future – it’s just too good not to. has revamped their brand and are once again putting out some great gear, make sure to go check ’em out if you get a spare second.
