Description
I am currently working on selling off folk art, textiles, and books from three different collector estates that have all asked me for help at the same time. Due to the volume of items, my descriptions over the coming months will be shorter that usual, but my commitment to accurately representing everything that I sell remains. Please review all of the photos before bidding. If you have any questions about any of the items for sale, please don't hesitate to contact me and I'll be more than happy to answer in more detail directly. Since the quantity of items is so high, everything will be listed for sale at very attractive prices, well below retail. If you are interested in folk art and textiles you will want to check my auctions daily for new, affordable treasures. This auction is for an antique handmade skirt from Indonesia called a "tapis". I believe it is made of cotton with metallic thread embroidery. The embroidery is used to spell out words as well as geometric motifs. The condition of the skirt is poor. There are numerous stains and areas of damaged embroidery as well as missing spangles. I believe this came out of a private Dutch collection many year ago. There are the initials V.A. on the back in one of the corners. The full skirt measures 47" long and 46" wide (23" folded in half). Please note that the price reflects the damaged condition as in good condition these often retail for over ,000.
