Description
This is an original Antique Bronze Lime Pot / Tube / Container from Cambodia. Historically Artisans would make these elaborate vessels for the storage of lime paste used in the chewing of betel nut. This lovely piece conservatively dates from the 18th Century to the end of the 19th Century. Please note the lid of the container fits very well & residue of lime paste is still clearly visible in a number of the pictures. The piece also has a bronze ball in the lattice work base that makes a distinctive sounds when shaken.
Most of my inventory
was purchased in Bangkok's well known antique district bordered by Silom / Surawong Road in the early 1970's by my father. I believe the tube was most likely purchased at Anna's Antiques or Peng Seng, two very reputable Bangkok Antique dealers at that time. The purchase was made during one of his many buying trips for his Antique Shop located at the Rasa Sayang Resort in Penang, Malaysia.
A very nice piece indeed
