Antique Betel Box Maranao from the Philippines

Description

Antique Betel Box from the Philippines decorated in the Maranao style.  The box appears to be brass overlaid with silver.
Betel nuts were frequently chewed in the Philippines and much of Southeast Asia. Wealthier Maranao families were able to afford silver inlaid brass betel boxes to show off to their visitors.These visitors were offered betel along with lime and leaves to make up the betel quid.
The box is made up of an inner and outer box. The outer box has a hinged lid and handles and is elaborately decorated while the inner box is divided into 3 lidded compartments. The box measures 5 1/2" l x 2 1/2 " w x 2 1/2" tall.
Some of the silver inlaid pieces have come off over the lifetime of the box and the box has been well used. I attempted to polish the box with a silver cloth but did not attempt the inside of the box. The item has all hinged lids intact and appears to be in good antique condition Please see all pictures and Please ask any questions you might have.
