Here is a beautiful pair of Bathing Clogs
Similar to the Turkish
Nalın
(also known as
Takunya
), they would elevate the feet for use in public baths
All hand carved from single pieces of local tropical hardwood
Characteristic form, pierced ornamentation
They would be attached to the feet with fabric strips
A marking on the underside of one, most likely stamped, with a tree form and some lettering which is hard to make out
Balinese/Javanese in origin, Southeast Asia, first half of the 20th century
